The picture shown does not do justice to the effort that these families have put in to keep the flooding out of these homes. We have been fighting the water for years now and every time we think we can take a break, it comes back full force. My family is exhausted. My father works a full-time job over 40 hours a week and spends the rest of his time putting up any type of defense possible to keep the water out. The late nights sandbagging and pumping water. My spouse and I have been calling into work for years when the storms come through to spend weekends trying to reinforce around the house. The dogs have lost the majority of their front yard and have to use stepping Stones to get to dry sections just to use the bathroom. The backyard which was once a beautiful memorial is constantly being flooded as one of the lower sections of the yard. The property that my family has lived on for around 14 years is now constantly being threatened with flooding. There are no vacations, there are no breaks, there is just monitoring and pumping and sandbagging and reenforcing. They are too scared to even leave their house for a day if there is a chance of rain so they won't come home to their blockade being destroyed. The counties have said they would do something for over 2 years and it wasn't until Stedman stepped up and did all of this research that people actually started to look and listen. Everyone is emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted from the toll that this has taken. Something needs to be done now, the money for the plans needs to be the money for a solution. Do not waste any more time trying to come up with the perfect plan, show action, show initiative, don't let the next Storm come through and set us further back than we already are.
