A report of a drive-by shooting resulted in the arrest of two Jackson County men; however, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting itself, which is still under investigation.
The Chipley Police Department responded to 1171 1st Avenue on Nov. 18 to a report of a drive-by shooting. No one was home at the time of the shooting; however, officers located “multiple bullet holes” to the exterior of the residence.
Chipley PD states the investigation led officers to the area of Anderson Street in an effort to locate possible witnesses. During the course of the investigation officers observed a vehicle pull up and a subject, later identified as 24-year-old Deonta J. Bellamy of Graceville, exited the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Officers state Bellamy then approached a parked car and pulled on its door handles, walking away after finding them locked.
When approached and questioned about his actions, Bellamy indicated to investigators that it was not his car.
Meanwhile, investigators observed “a strong odor of marijuana” coming from inside the vehicle Bellamy had previously exited and asked its remaining occupants to also step out. The front seat passenger was identified as 22-year-old Trayvon D. Johnson of Graceville, a subject wanted out of Arizona for absconding from Parole.
A search of the vehicle yielded more than 20 grams of marijuana, a firearm, and ammunition.
Johnson was arrested and is charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana greater than 20 grams. Bellamy was also arrested and is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of a weapon while in the commission of a felony.
Chipley PD is still following up on leads in the drive-by shooting incident, stating that while Johnson and Bellamy have not been charged with the shooting, they are both “persons of interest.”
Anyone with any information on this shooting is asked to contact the Chipley Police Department at 850-638-6310.
